BY SCOTT MOORE, OCTOBER 30, 2026I recently came across a great post on Instagram by a Texas REALTOR® named Margarita Resto at @margaritasellshomes
I thought her advice was so spot-on that I shared the post on my Instagram account @sellmoore, but I want to share it here too.
Here’s your moving day game plan:
Make the beds. Do this before anything else. At 11pm, nobody cares where the spatula ended up.
Set up the bathroom. Toilet paper, towels, shower curtain, meds, toiletries. Give it ten minutes and the place is livable.
Open the first night box. Chargers, a change of clothes, basic tools, paper plates, snacks. Load it last so it's the first thing off the truck.
Clean while everything is empty. Wipe down every cabinet, shelf, and drawer before you put anything in them. They'll never be this empty again.
Now the kitchen, but just the essentials. One pan, one pot, a knife, the coffee maker. Use the space for a few days before you decide where things live. You'll end up storing things where you naturally reach for them, not where you guessed on move-in day.
And get takeout that first night.
