By Phil Gear, Realtor
Where can I find Farmers’ Markets in Winnipeg? That’s a question I’ve been asking too so here is a list of local farmers’ markets offering fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, handmade goods, and a taste of local Manitoba flavours.
No matter where you are in the city, there's a market nearby where you can shop and support local vendors. In this post, we’ve rounded up some of the best farmers' markets and CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) programs around Winnipeg for you to check out:
1) Le Marché St. Norbert Farmers' Market (3514 Pembina Hwy): Farmers’ Market
One of Winnipeg’s most well-known farmers' markets, Le Marché St. Norbert is open year-round on Saturdays and Sundays. Rain or shine, the market is your go-to spot for local food, along with a wide range of handmade goods and crafts to pick up while you’re there.
2) FortWhyte Farms (1961 McCreary Rd): Farmers’ Market & CSA
FortWhyte Farms is more than just a working farm — it’s about supporting local businesses and youth. Every dollar spent at FortWhyte Farms is reinvested back into the farm and its community programs. During the summer months, the farm offers several ways to source local goods. Stop by their Nature Shop (open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM) for honey, canned goods, pork, and chicken, or visit their weekly farmers' market. You can also take part in their CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program, which offers a weekly or bi-weekly pick-up of 8-12 naturally grown veggies straight from the farm.
3) South Osborne Farmers' Market (725 Kylemore Ave): Farmers’ Market
The South Osborne Farmers’ Market is a community hub offering locally raised meats, organic fruits, and veggies. It runs every Wednesday from 4-8 pm, mid-June to mid-October. All vendors at this market offer Manitoba-grown, spray-free products with a focus on reducing packaging waste. But it isn’t just about food, enjoy local beer and cider, live music, kids' activities, and more!
4) Almost Urban Vegetables (Find them at the St. Norbert Farmers' Market): Farmers’ Market & CSA
Almost Urban Vegetables brings fresh, local produce straight from their farm to you through their weekly vegetable box program and at the St. Norbert Farmers' Market. Through their CSA program, you’ll receive a weekly supply of seasonal, naturally grown veggies for 16 weeks each summer. They use no pesticides, herbicides, or artificial fertilizers in their products.
5) Wellness Farmers' Market (1075 Leila Ave): Farmers’ Market
If you’re in North Winnipeg, this is the market for you! Running from June 25 to September 24 on Tuesdays, the Wellness Farmers' Market offers fresh fruit and veggie staples, delicious pies, homemade sauces, and, new this year, food trucks!
6) Downtown Farmers' Market (333 St. Mary Ave): Farmers’ Market
Centrally located, the Downtown Farmers' Market is perfect for those looking to grab fresh, local goods during the workweek. Open Thursdays from May to October, this small but mighty market offers fresh produce, meats, baked goods, and artisan products, all from proudly Manitoban vendors.
No matter which market you visit, supporting local vendors helps our communities and brings fresh food to your table. So, grab your bags, head out for some fresh produce. and I’ll hopefully see you there!
