Meet David: From the Classroom to Winnipeg Real Estate
BY David Van Benthem, Realtor | August 28, 2026Allow me to re-introduce myself. I'm David and I'm proud to call Winnipeg home.
A Winnipeg Story
I’m a proud lifelong Winnipegger. I grew up in Charleswood, graduated from St. Paul’s High School and later earned my Bachelor of Education from the University of Manitoba.
My introduction to real estate came shortly after graduation when I purchased my first home on Cathcart Street. At the time, I didn't know much about the industry but I knew that investing in real estate was a smart decision.
Building a Career in Education
For much of my adult life, my focus was on two things: teaching and raising my family.
I spent 25 years in education, helping students learn, grow, and achieve their goals. Teaching was incredibly rewarding, but I always had an entrepreneurial side that was looking for a new challenge.
While I enjoyed the classroom and the opportunity to make a difference in students' lives, I knew there was another path I wanted to pursue.
Taking the Leap
Eventually, I decided it was time for a change.
Real estate had always interested me, and I was excited by the opportunity to combine my passion for helping people with my interest in business. I invested my time and energy into becoming a REALTOR® and joining The Moore Group.
It was a decision that felt right from day one.
Helping Clients Move Forward
Since becoming a REALTOR®, I’ve had the privilege of helping clients buy, sell, and build homes throughout Winnipeg.
My years in education taught me the value of listening, communicating clearly, and putting people first. Those same principles guide every client relationship I build today.
Whether you're purchasing your first home, upsizing for a growing family, building your dream home, or preparing to sell, my goal is simple: make the process smooth, informed, and successful.
Home, Family & Community
Today, I live in St. Norbert with my wife and our three amazing children. Over the years, I've also called Charleswood and Linden Woods home, giving me firsthand knowledge of many Winnipeg communities.
Outside of real estate, you'll often find me at the hockey rink.
When my oldest child started playing hockey, I quickly got involved as a coach. What started as helping out has grown into years of volunteering as both a coach and board member with the South Winnipeg Hockey Association.
Giving back to the community has always been important to me, and it's something I carry into my work every day.
Looking Ahead
Real estate has given me the opportunity to continue doing what I've always loved—helping people navigate important life decisions.
Whether you're buying, selling, building, or simply looking for advice, I'd be happy to help. Reach me directly at 204-960-8414.
